About Solvay
During the long stretches of 1941 and 1942, the Ateliers Jean Prouvé arranged and executed various inside design projects for the Solvay synthetic company.‎ Numerous household items were created regarding this commission, including a table made of wood that embodies Prouvé’s development strategies: its underlying subtleties represent the interchange of powers and stresses – like the later design of the EM Table, whose metal legs recognize it from its predecessor.‎ Due to the shortage of metal during World War II, the Solvay table was designed and built with wooden legs.‎ The solid wood parts and fine oiled completion of the Solvay table provide it with a feeling of straightforwardness and refinement, alleviating the specialized coolness of its design.‎ Materials: – Table top: thickness 34 mm, solid wood with oiled completion; normal oak, smoked oak or American walnut.‎ – Base: legs coordinated to table top, solid wood with oiled completion in regular oak, smoked oak or American pecan; rounded steel crossbar with powder-covered completion (smooth).‎
