About Acrilica – 281

From then on, the two Colombo siblings obviously isolated their fields: Joe left workmanship in which he had shown intriguing guarantee with ‘Nucleari’, while Gianni presently not worked in plan, becoming one of the main types of the dynamic, customized movement. The 281 model, made in 1962, was promptly nicknamed ‘Acrilica’ because of its astonishing obviousness and exemption development of the huge bend produced using acrylic. Methacrylate, utilized for about 10 years in the field of lighting, generally in slender sheets that are cut or thermoformed, tracked down an extremely specific use here: its thickness and bend implied that, on account of its conduction properties, the light from a fluorescent lamp contained inside the painted steel base traveled through the straightforward body, in the end lighting the head in an extraordinary way. Due to this ‘mysterious development’, ‘281’ is more a work of active craftsmanship than a lamp. In 1964, ‘Acrilica’ won the gold decoration at the XIII Triennial in Milan.
