Euroluce 2023: Grandeur and Luxury in a New Generation of Lighting
The lighting industry has made significant strides in recent years. Many designers have discovered the immense potential for experimentation in the realm of lighting, allowing for not only technical advancements but also drawing inspiration from classic and contemporary art without hesitation.
Lighting has a special place in interior design: we recognize its importance in any setting, whether it is a home or an outdoor restaurant terrace. However, we often overlook the significance of well-crafted lighting fixtures made from high-quality materials, boasting ergonomic designs, and crafted by skilled professionals. Euroluce 2023, the global exhibition dedicated to lighting, demonstrates that light offers far more versatility than furniture. Held in parallel with Salone del Mobile, this year marked its 31st edition, occupying an exhibition area comparable to that of major technology expos.
While witnesses agree that this year’s lighting solutions struck an ideal balance between functionality and design, showcasing rare luxury, we aim to present the latest innovations from two perspectives. The luminaires featured in the following article are characterized by their extraordinary beauty and grandiose designs, reminiscent of decorative pieces in a royal palace or exhibits in a modern art museum. Explore true architectural masterpieces from Slamp, subtle geometric solutions from Italamp, an Art Deco collection from Masiero, and Olev’s remarkable integration with nature. These novelties captured admiration at Euroluce 2023.
Aria Infinita, Slamp
Slamp celebrated their ten-year partnership with Zaha Hadid Design studio by showcasing their latest masterpiece, "Aria Infinita" at Euroluce 2023. The "Aria Iinfinita" project pays tribute to the late Zaha Hadid's revolutionary ability to think beyond traditional concepts of design. This dynamic and majestic sculpture showcases sinuous lines and bold shapes that reflect the architect's original approach. The lighting installation appears to float and changes its light and density perception for viewers if they change the point of observation, making it a fascinating object to behold. Moreover, it is not just a traditional lighting concept; it is a modular system that can be perfect for large environments in both domestic and formal settings. "Aria Infinita" is an example of how Slamp continues to push boundaries and look towards the future.
Le Grand Ceremony, Slamp
With its intricate design and mesmerizing light effects, "Le Grand Ceremony" is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who experiences it. This opulent suspension is a true celebration of femininity, with a design that evokes the soft brush of a skirt, the gentle curve of a draped fabric, and the shimmer of pearls. But "Le Grand Ceremony" isn't just pretty - it's also a powerful source of light, with cascading rays that create an impressive impact in any space. The technopolymer "necklaces" that make up the fixture add to its ethereal quality, while also helping to distribute the light evenly. Despite its grandeur, this fixture is surprisingly easy to install. Slamp has developed it with larger projects in mind, so "Le Grand Ceremony" can effortlessly dominate even the most massive of spaces. It almost feels like you're walking into a grand ceremony when you stand beneath this stunning piece.
Quantica, Slamp
"Quantica" is a lighting fixture that truly embodies the intersection of art and science. This luxurious sculpture celebrates the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, where elements are intertwined and cannot be separated. Through its graphic representation of this cosmic connection, "Quantica" transforms the perception of space through an intricate dialogue between intangible light and dense sculptural elements. The fixture's opulent golden textile effect adds an extra layer of elegance to the already stunning design. It's also crafted with the utmost care and precision. The almost weightless, unbreakable Opalflex technopolymer is cold-cut and then handcrafted by Slamp's team of talented artisans. Their attention to detail is evident in every curve and line of the fixture, making it a true masterpiece of design.
Filo, Italamp
Designed by the talented Defne Koz, the "Filo" series of suspension and wall lamps is the epitome of understated sophistication. At the heart of the collection is a white glass sphere that is held in an elastic balance by a metal bar. The white glass diffuser provides a natural, welcoming atmosphere, the metal bar comes in two different finishes: a chic matte black or a brushed light gold that exudes luxury. Thanks to its unique design, "Filo" doesn't just light up a room - it becomes a part of the space itself. The simple graphic sign draws attention, establishes its own visual area, and gives any location a dash of artistic flair.
Aurora, Italamp
Italamp also introduced at Euroluce the collection “Aurora,” a series of floor, table, ceiling, and wall lamps designed by Virginia Cei. By fusing straightforward shapes with quirky accents, this collection embraces a novel approach and creates a singular and varied look. The playful movement of one of its elements adds a touch of unpredictability to the overall composition, creating a sense of energy and movement. The collection is available in a range of colors that evoke the charming hues of the Italian countryside. As Virginia Cei says, only a select few can truly appreciate the beauty of dawn, and with the "Aurora" collection, you can feel that light and magic in your own space.
Piola, Italamp
The "Piola" lighting fixture by Italamp is a captivating example of the ideal fusion of structure and light, presenting a distinct and avant-garde design philosophy. Created by the talented designer Danilo De Rossi, the fixture features a modular grid made of intertwined tubes and cast glass with a texture of micro-bubbles, forming a luminous diaphragm that becomes an architectural element in itself. The glass bars are illuminated by the LEDs on either side, producing a sparkling lighting effect that almost feels like a breath of fresh air. "Piola" is a genuine piece of art that highlights Italamp's aptitude for sculpting matter and light with a unique and imaginative touch.
Lady D, Karman
"Lady D” is a modern take on the classic crystal chandelier. The collection features a white fiberglass diffuser that beautifully complements the silhouette of the hanging and floor lamps. The floor version can be moved with ease thanks to a handy ring on top of the diffuser, while crystal drops lend a bit of glitz to the pendant version. This outdoor hanging lamp is a non-conformist interpretation of a crystal chandelier, just like the Princess of Wales in the context of the royal family, whose name inspired the collection. Matteo Ugolini's creative vision for Karman is distinct and unique, as he designs what he truly likes, with no muse among masters of the past.
Tee Dimore, Masiero
"Tee Dimore" by Masiero is a lighting fixture that embodies the perfect balance between elegance and geometric rigor. Its curved design and organic shape recall the graceful and delicate nature of the calla lily flower. The galvanized metal structure finished with a gold-copper galvanic bath supports the luminous spheres that are delicately decorated with spiral lines, evoking a dance of light. Each model from the Dimore collection tells a unique story and is a result of a passionate journey where light meets matter, metal combines with glass and crystals, and tradition smiles at the future. Designed by Valerio Cometti+V12 Design, the "Tee Dimore" is available in various versions - suspension and ceiling, floor and table, and wall-mounted.
Ebe, Masiero
The "Ebe" lighting collection by Nicola Gallizia Design Studio draws inspiration from the graceful and timeless Canova sculptures. The collection features jewel-like lamps that filter soft light through delicate mesh lampshades, creating a magical atmosphere in any room. The lamps' painted metal structure in glossy dark chocolate adds a touch of modernity to the overall design. The natural onyx base, a precious stone used in antiquity to make jewelry, adds to the lamps' ethereal feel, with its unique transparency and reflections reminiscent of the enchanting moonlight. With its sinuous shapes and noble materials, the "Ebe" collection is a perfect synthesis of modernity and freshness, embodying the youthful spirit of the mythological goddess it is named after.
Cordea Dimore, Masiero
Designed by Favaretto&Partners, the "Cordea Dimore" indoor pendant luminaire features a bell-shaped metal body that's surmounted by a sleek lamellar radiator. The body is available in three brilliant finishes: gold, dark nickel, and rose gold, which can be combined with three colors of leather fascia - black, leather, and red. The wide leather band elegantly encircles the metal body and features a golden brass buckle with the Masiero logo. The white satin-finish glass diffuser adds a touch of sophistication to the design. "Cordea" offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic industrial lamp with its aluminum lamellar head. This is an innovative piece that perfectly blends the rationality of industrial design with refined materials, finishes, and colors.
Visio, Masiero
"Visio" by Masiero is a lighting fixture that combines surrealist elements with geometric shapes to create compositions of facial features in various configurations. Designed by Nava + Arosio, this collection is a celebration of the expressive power of the face and the relevance of iconography. The polished chocolate-colored metal tubing is curved to form entire faces or combinations of individual features such as eyes, ears, noses, and mouths. Mixing mysticism and geometry, the unpredictable variations of the "Visio" evoke imagination and inspire curiosity. The lighting system is available in a suspension, applique, table lamp, and floor lamp, showcasing the versatility of its design. The Masiero DNA is evident in the heritage of skilled workmanship and attention to detail, adding to the Visio's overall beauty and uniqueness.
Tee Giardini, Masiero
Masiero’s “Tee Giardini” lighting fixture is a perfect addition to the Giardini catalog. Designed by Valerio Cometti+V12Design, the "Tee" beautifully curved form balances elegance and rigor. The polyethylene light spheres on the delicately etched parallel lines with a spiral effect create a mesmerizing dance of light. The tubular metal stems, available in white or hazelnut, give the fixtures a modern and organic touch, resembling the delicate calla lily flower. "Tee Giardini" offers a wide range of configurations, from suspended ceiling lights to floor, table, wall, and ground versions, making it extremely flexible and modular. Whether you're lighting up a garden or an architectural space, "Tee Giardini" has a solution that will meet your lighting needs.
Gavin Silence Leaf, Olev
This innovative lamp is a testament to Olev’s commitment to sustainable design and their belief in the importance of direct contact between nature and human beings. "Gavin Silence Leaf" features a ring of real evergreen leaves, stabilized to last for years without the need for water or maintenance. The thick foliage not only adds a touch of nature to the space but also provides sound-absorbing properties, improving the acoustic comfort of the environment. This lamp is the perfect solution for those seeking to integrate biophilic design elements into their living spaces. The circular LED bar provides comfortable lighting and can be adjusted in intensity to suit the user's preferences.
Triser, Olev
"Triser" is a pendant lamp, showcasing a delicate balance between glass and metal. The glass housing is skillfully handmade with thin grooved stripes that help to exude a soft light. The metal rod, designed with meticulous attention to detail, features ribbed engravings on both ends that add a precious and unique style to the lamp. The fixture emits a warm and inviting light that can be easily adjusted with dimming technologies.
Medusa, Oluce
The "Medusa" table lamp designed by Quaglio & Simonelli for Oluce is a beautiful glass lamp that subverts the traditional relationship between support and lampshade. The metal dome containing the light source is delicately suspended inside the glass cylinder, and the electric cable descends freely from the center of the diffuser, adding to the lamp's sense of lightness. With a Pyrex glass structure and an inner metal reflector, "Medusa" is visually very striking. The fixture is available in three beautiful color variants: glossy black, satin gold, and scarlet red, and it provides soft and warm direct LED light. The lamp also has an on/off switch, making use of it simple.

Their new stand concept, composed of capsules, has led visitors on an exciting journey to discover the new designs that will soon be available for your interior design projects. With a mix of works of both new designers and long-time collaborators, Flos showcased a diverse range of new lighting fixtures, among which "2097 White".
In 1958, Gino Sarfatti revolutionized traditional Murano glass chandeliers by creating the incredibly modern for these times "2097". This is a stunningly elegant chandelier, now available in a matte white color, transforming functional cables and bulbs into decorative elements, giving the classic piece a contemporary twist that has aged exceptionally well.
Africa, Vibia
"Africa" is designed as a response to the changes in our modern lifestyle, where residential and professional spaces tend seamlessly to turn into a nomadic and casual field. This fixture has a clever recharging mechanism. The shaft effortlessly slides into a magnetized charger, maintaining the sculpture-like expression of the luminaire. This practical feature ensures a continuous power supply, allowing the lamp to provide ample and high-quality lighting serving for detailed task work.
The base of "Africa" is a slender and conical stem that gracefully leads to a refined head. This striking lamp boasts a lacquered matte texture, is offered in four natural tones, exuding warmth, and tangible appeal, and is available in two sizes. Crafted from a single unit of pure aluminum, it not only has a heavy enough weight but also showcases the technical excellence associated with high-end industrial processes. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, "Africa" has a wide range of applications. Whether accentuating a forgotten corner at home, illuminating a dedicated workspace, or creating a romantic ambiance for a heartfelt meal, this luminaire adapts effortlessly to various settings, both public and residential.
As a beacon of light, "Africa" stands as a unique gift that encapsulates the essence of the human experience and traditions.
Knit, Vibia
The most captivating lighting collection in the opinion of visitors that Vibia unveiled at Euroluce 2023 was "Knit". With its range of five large pendants and four floor lamps, this collection reimagines the traditional lampshade by infusing it with contemporary allure.
"Knit" celebrates the essence of femininity and softness with its outer layer, exuding an intimate and comforting aura. The design offers a knitted lycra cover that elegantly drapes over flattened spheres. The ribbed fabric stretches over the diffuser, creating varying levels of density that further enhance the visual and tactile experience. Through the translucent screen, light gracefully permeates the fabric, casting a gentle glow that emanates both outwards and downwards, creating an inviting ambiance. The "Knit" collection seamlessly harmonizes with warm materials like wood, curtains, and large sofa arrangements. Furthermore, the "Knit" collection features dimming control, providing users with the ability to customize the density of light to suit their desired mood.
